This guide will cover what the oil is, where it comes from, and its many epic benefits. Read on to find out more.

What is Jojoba Oil?

First up, let's talk about what this oil is. The product comes from a North American plant known as jojoba, which lives in desert environments. The oil comes from the plant's seeds; despite its liquid-like appearance, it is a wax. Over the years, experts have extracted and used the oil in many health and beauty products.

According to the National Library of Medicine, the plant is widely used in medicine around the globe. Research reveals that the oil has various health properties, including being anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-acne, anti-psoriasis, antimicrobial and antifungal. For that reason, jojoba oil has become popular in the healthcare industry.

10 Benefits of Jojoba Oil

Now that you understand what jojoba oil is, let's delve into its benefits. You can use this oil as part of your haircare, skincare, and everyday wellness routine. The secret is knowing how and when to use it. If you're ready to dive right in, let's look at 10 of the core benefits this natural oil offers.

1. Hydrates the skin

Dry skin can be a real problem for too many of us. If you suffer from this common complaint, you may seek ways to overcome the issue. One of the things you may want to try is using jojoba oil in your everyday skincare regime. The oil has properties that will help your skin retain water and stay hydrated throughout the day and night.

To better understand this, you should know that jojoba oil is a humectant ingredient. That means that it actively works to attract water to the skin. Therefore, keeping the skin moist and hydrated could lead to many benefits, including helping to prevent acne. Therefore, many skin products contain jojoba oil as an ingredient.

2. Help heal wounds

When you've had an accident or injury, healing the wound can be difficult. Often, you have to wait it out and treat the damage as best you can. However, there are ways that you can speed up the process. One way is to use products rich in jojoba oil. Research suggests that this wax may help to support the wound healing process over time.

3. Help to treat acne

A massive 95% of people between the ages of 11 and 30 are affected by acne in some way, according to the National Health Service (NHS). For that reason, many people look for ways to curb their skin problems. The condition causes oily skin and breakouts. You may find that the skin is hot to the touch and can be irritated easily.

One of the approaches you may want to use is including jojoba oil in your routine. Changing how you care for yourself could mean that you have glowing skin. As we have already covered, this oil hydrates and keeps your skin looking healthy.

4. Soften your cuticles

Has it been a while since you had a manicure? If those cuticles need some TLC, this oil may be the way to go. One of the most surprising jojoba oil benefits is that it can soften the cuticles. To get this right, apply the waxy oil directly to the affected area when doing your nails. You may find the skin more supple and easier to work with.

5. Reduce fine lines and wrinkles

Everyone wants perfect, glowing skin. As you age, you will naturally get fine lines and wrinkles. While you can't get rid of these altogether — nor should you want to — there is a simple way to lessen their appearance. Since oxidative stress is linked to these lines, using antioxidants in your skincare could make a big difference. Jojoba oil is the perfect example, as it is 100% natural, easy to use, and a known antioxidant.

6. Fights cold sores

Cold sores can be an absolute nightmare. When you wake up with a sore in the corner of your mouth, it's uncomfortable and unsightly. Luckily, there are holistic ways that you can treat this problem. Research suggests that using jojoba oil on the affected area may help to lower the impact of the herpes virus. You might want to consult a medical professional before using the wax as part of your cold sore treatment plan.

7. Soothe sunburn quickly

Did you forget to wear some sunscreen? Those harmful UV rays can significantly impact your skin when you don't protect it. Red, itchy, and tight skin are all signs of sunburn. By the time you've caught these side effects, it's already too late. Fortunately, you can soothe the burn and lessen its impact over time. As WebMD reports, you can use jojoba oil to remove the pain. You may also want to use aloe vera and coconut oil to help your skin. For more ways to get rid of sunburn, check out our other article.

8. Supports hair regrowth

Is jojoba oil good for hair? The short answer is yes. Hair loss can be stressful for the best of us. Whether your hair is thinning or losing parts of it, you may be searching for natural solutions. That's where jojoba oil comes into play.

Research suggests that this oil can be used as a hair loss treatment. It's worth speaking to a specialist to understand better how to use the oil as part of your hair care regime. If you want to start small, you can look for products with this natural ingredient.

9. Removes your makeup

Beauty rule 101 says that you should remove your makeup before hitting the hay. You might want to change your ways if you're still using disposable wipes. This option damages the environment but also means you have makeup residue on your face. You might say that it's a lose-lose option. Using jojoba oil or coconut oil instead is a small and effective lifestyle change. Dab some on a cloth and wipe it all away.

Gently rub the oil throughout your hair, avoiding the roots wherever possible. Leave the stuff in for the day as a DIY leave-in conditioner and see the difference.

I've been using Jojoba oil for years as a face moisturiser, occasionally I will rub a bit through my hair and I also use it on my legs and elbows - an all round great oil - although it's terrible on it's own as a hand moisturiser!
