Between presents, food, and decor, Christmas can become an expensive time of year. It's helpful to save some money wherever you can, so why not try making your own Christmas wreath this year?

Instead of spending a small fortune on a basic wreath, you can have fun crafting one that's personal to you. Today we're sharing 15 impressive DIY Christmas wreaths that you can make today. The big day is fast approaching, so don't delay! 

Wreath making basics 

Making your own wreath might sound technical, but it's very easy. Let's walk through the basics. 

What you'll need: 

• A wire wreath - This will be the base for your design. You could also use a coat hanger, foam, or some cardboard. It all depends on what you've got and how sturdy you'd like your design to be. 
• Florist wire - to hold your wreath together.
• Foliage or an alternative - For a classic look, you'll want the wreath to be nice and busy. You can use fake or real foliage, depending on how long you'd like your wreath to last.
• Decorations - The only limit here is your imagination, but for a basic wreath you could use baubles, pinecones, or ribbon.
• Scissors or shears to cut up the foliage and florist wire.

How to assemble your design: 

1. Take your wire wreath and lay it on a flat, sturdy surface. 
2. Prepare your foliage by cutting it into small, manageable sprigs with a pair of scissors or shears.
3. Lay pieces of foliage onto the wreath and secure in place by wrapping the florist wire several times around the base of the bunch. 
4. Overlap the last piece of foliage with a new piece to hide the wire. 
5. Continue in the same way around the ring until it looks full. The last bundle should neatly tuck under the first. 
6. Fill in any gaps and decorate the wreath with ornaments and ribbon. Tie a piece of ribbon at the top so that you can hang your design. 

DIY Wreath Inspiration

2. Expert Home Tips cleaning wreath

We decided to give wreath making a go, and this is what we put together! What do you think? Do you know someone who needs this on their front door?

To make our cleaning wreath, we used sponge scourers, dusters, blue cleaning cloths, and a duster cloth. We cut the scourers into shapes to mimic foliage and glued it all onto a foam ring. 

3. Let it snow

We love the simplicity of this one. Simply roll up individual pieces of paper from a vintage map and glue them together until you have a full wreath. Impressive, isn't it?
