I’m a big fan of a good old-fashioned bath, and who isn’t? It’s great when we finally get a chance to relax and unwind.
There are also plenty of ways you can spice up bath time with some of these cheap and stress-free hacks, including homemade bath bombs, DIY detoxes and more to make your next bath the best one ever…
Before you continue, don’t forget to follow us on:
Build a DIY bath caddy for your tea, magazine, wine…
Gather all your essentials and make your own DIY bath caddy so you can read, eat, and drink while you soak. Find out how to make your own with Lemon Thistle.
Get your towels extra fluffy
Want super fluffy towels? If yours feel more like sandpaper, you’ll need a ‘recharge wash’ to strip the layers of product from the fibres. Pop your towels in the washing machine (do not overload) adding 2 cups of white (or white wine) vinegar to the drum and 2 tbsp of your favourite fabric softener in the slot and wash at 90. Do not use detergent of any kind!
Immediately wash again at 90 with 1 cup of bicarbonate of soda in the powder slot and dry outside ideally on a windy day. If you have some cash to spare, use a dryer with a tennis ball popped into the drum.
Treat yourself to a waterproof pillow
Relax with a waterproof bath neck support pillow. These are ideal if you fancy taking a longer bath and they fit perfectly onto any bath tub, giving your neck full support.
Make a bath time playlist
Whether you’re into classic 80s pop or the sound of dolphins and the ocean, prepare a playlist that will help you completely relax and zone out. If you’re struggling for inspiration, google ‘bath time playlist’ or check out Spotify for a pre-made list, then all you have to do is press play. Grab a waterproof speaker to enjoy your tunes while splashing around.
Set the mood with candles
Get all the relaxing vibes by scattering tea light candles all around your bathroom. If you don’t trust yourself with real ones, you can also get LED candles that you can just switch on and feel the same effect.
Soak in a bath of herbal tea
Sit back and enjoy a relaxing bath after you make a few personalised bathtub teabags. They’re so easy to make and they will help detox your whole body. Find out how to make your very own DIY Lavendar tea bags.
Try a muscle-relaxing Epsom salt soak
If you’re feeling the muscle strain after a heavy workout, or even just day-to-day life, treat yourself to an Epsom salt soak. Add a couple of tablespoons of Epsom salts to hot water and soak body parts affected by gout. Magnesium sulphate quickly soaks through skin and into the swollen, aching joints to help alleviate pain and inflammation.
Add essential oils to make your own bath salts
Add your own bath salts to make a DIY bath salt experience. You can mix and match to make combinations based on your relaxation needs e.g. lemon + rosemary = clear your mind. Discover more combinations at Hello Glow.

…or create your own citrus-free bath bombs

Polish your skin with a homemade coffee scrub

Clear your skin with a DIY face mask
Have any fruit or veg you’re unlikely to use by its use date? Have any wheat products or eggs in your kitchen? Throw them in a bowl, mash it all up and smudge it on your face. These ingredients contain natural goodness that will help refresh your skin and remove impurities.
A perfect combo includes oatmeal + egg + lemon juice for a lovely, skin reviving mask. There are so many out there and there are no rules – you can easily wing it and create your own DIY face mask sensation.
Try this spa-inspired oatmeal and lavender bath
If it’s good enough for expensive salons and spa experiences, it’s good enough to make in the comfort of your own home! Find out how to make this dreamy duo on The Every Girl.
