Clever cleaning uses for Sellotape

1. Use sticky tape to remove pet hair from your clothes

De fluff with sellotape
Sellotape - a pet hair saviour!

I've found sticky tape makes an efficient alternative to a lint roller. If your clothes are adorned with pet hair, take a strip of Sellotape and use it to remove those pesky hairs. I find it works better in quick, light dabs, and I wrap it around my hand. Sellotape Original Golden tape is the original and best for pet hair removal.

I use this trick more often than I'd like - pretty much every morning at work! Rubber gloves also work a treat on removing dog hair from furniture, curtains and cushions. If dog hair is a problem for you too, check out my 19 cleaning tips for pet owners.

2. Pick up tiny shards of glass using Sellotape

If you need to quickly clean up broken bits of glass, make sure you get all those tiny shards - that could be missed by your broom - by dabbing sellotape onto the carpet or flooring. If you're dealing with lots of shards, wrap a wad of toilet roll in tape (sticky side up) to help keep your hands safe.

Did you know you can also use a slice of bread to pick up broken glass? It's one of those strange kitchen tips that actually work.

3. Use Sellotape to clean your keyboard

Eating lunch al desko results in far too many rogue bits of crisps and cooking crumbles in my keyboard. I use tape to catch any crumbs and fold it in half and slide a thin strip into the keypad gaps to get all those pesky hard-to-reach bits.

If your keyboard is at home then you could also use your hairdryer to on a gentle cool setting to blow out any bits of food debris or dust. The humble hair dryer is quite a nifty little cleaning aid, make sure you check out these practical uses for a hair dryer to find out more.

4. Lift pollen stains from clothes & furnishings

Don't let pet hair and pollen stains ruin your favourite cushion!

Love lilies but hate the loose pollen stains? Me too! The pollen gets everywhere and if you're not careful it can leave stains that are really hard to get rid. Use some tape to lift off the pollen by dabbing it in one quick movement. 5. Make little flags with Decorative On-Hand Tape

Wrap your patterned tape around a toothpick and cut small triangles out to create a cute little flag. They're perfect for decorating cupcakes or labelling buffet food at parties.

6. Use Decorative On-Hand Tape to decorate your keyboard

SO cute.

Give your keyboard a makeover! Simply cut your tape down to size and stick it over your keyboard - warning this should only be used for those who are confident typists and know which keys are which on their keyboard.

7. Label cords with Decorative On-Hand Tape

Either use your tape to create little flags around cords to keep them organised or label the plugs so you know exactly what is what. Either way, both will help you keep everything in order.

8. Mount decorations and art onto walls without the need for nails

If you're living in rented accommodation or simply don't want to ruin your walls with nails, use Sticky Fixer Strip to semi-permanently mount hooks, photographs, Christmas decorations and other light materials onto your walls.

9. Add some joy to boring envelopes

Decorative tape on Envelope
Instant improvement!

Add a little joy to your post and seal envelopes safely with the help of some Sellotape Decorative Tape. I love the snowflake design to add a little festive spirit to Christmas cards and gifts. You could even use this tape to improve the look of gifts - I'm a big fan of using brown paper and newspaper for gifts then adding statement tape or ribbon.

Flower arranging made EASY!

Use Sellotape's handy On-Hand dispenser (it's a bit like a ring) to arrange your flowers like a pro. Sometimes flowers can droop and need a helping hand to keep in place. I like to use a small bit of tape to hold them in place! It works a treat. You can also place tape crossways along your vase to form a grid so flowers can be evenly spaced out.

11. Make smudge-proof labels

Make do and mend as they say!

Isn't it SO annoying when the plastic on the end of your shoelace comes off and you're stuck with a rapidly fraying lace? Grab your trusty roll of Sellotape and cut it down to size before double wrapping it around the end to keep it from fraying any further. You could even use their decorative tape to add a pop of colour or to personalise your shoelaces.

13. Tape spare batteries to appliances

Tape Batteries to Radio
Never be without the radio again.

Make your life infinitely easier by taping spare batteries to the back of your small battery-operated appliances. No more searching around for spare batteries next time your alarm clock or radio dies! Sadly this can't be used on the TV remote control... if you have any tips let me know!

If a wobbly hand is holding you back from creating the perfect cat click then you need to try this tip immediately. Use a small slice of tape and apply it to the side of your face and angle it where you want to trace an eyeliner pen. Draw along the line, wait for the eyeliner to dry and lift off gently.

If you've got sensitive skin this article on easy eyeliner hacks suggests you use a credit card instead.

15. Perfect your brows

If you fill your brows in with an eyebrow pencil then you need to try this beauty hack. Place the tape under the arches and at the end of your eyebrows before filling them in. The result will be super tidy eyebrows.

 16. Draw your own nail art

Beautiful!

Embrace nail art and upgrade your manicure! I applied Sellotape across the lower section of my nails and painted over them. Once they were dry I simply lifted off the tape to reveal a unique two-tone effect.

17. Remove excess make-up - a pro tip from Lady Gaga!

According to the Daily Mail, celebrity make-up artist Kabuki swears by using sellotape to remove excess glitter and eye makeup. So much so, he used it to clean up fallen glitter particles from the Queen of Glitter, Lady Gaga's face at an awards ceremony. If it's good enough for Lady G, it's good enough for us.

Celebrities love a good beauty hack as much as the rest of us. For more beauty secrets check out the a-list products you already have in your kitchen.

18. Contour your face the easy way

Frightened to even try contouring? I hear you, but beauty bloggers swear it's easy peasy when you tape your face first. No really, place the tape as guidelines around the area you want to apply the foundation or powder that is darker than your skin. Then take it off, and use a lighter highlighter or foundation to blend it in. But don't just take my word for it, follow this tutorial by beauty blogger Huda Kattan at Cosmo for more detailed instructions.

19. Emergency blister prevention

If you're wearing heels or new shoes and can feel the insides rubbing, grab some tape and put it over the area until you can get your hands on a plaster. It could just prevent that blister from forming!

Ways to make your life easier with Sellotape

20. Use tape as a scoop scraper

Attach the sticky side of a short piece of tape to the sticky side of a longer piece of tape and tape it across a container with a powder such as cocoa powder. Next time you dip a scoop or spoon in there, you can use the tape to level it off and get a more accurate measure. Genius!

You don't need to buy a fancy label maker to label your possessions. Take some paper, and stick a slice of sticky tape over it to keep it in place. You can label school supplies, kids lunch boxes, and even label all your items like detergent and face wash before you head to university.
