Sweet potato fans, I’m going to tell you how to make yourselves some mega-tasty crinkle-cut wedges. Eat them with burgers, vegetables or on their own – whatever you choose, you’re sure to love them.
First things first, you need to get yourself a crinkle cutter. I own a Kitchen Craft Crinkle Chip Cutter for £3.99 but if you scroll down after a quick ‘Crinkle cutter’ Amazon search, I’ve just seen a beautiful Jamie Oliver Stainless Steel Plastic Crinkle Cut Knife set that looks pretty cool.
Once you’ve got your crinkle cutter, here’s how to make your crinkle-cut wedges…
Before you continue, don’t forget to follow us on:
1. Wash & cut your sweet potatoes
It’s time to wash and pat dry your sweet potatoes! I always choose one sweet potato per person and chuck in an extra one for luck / greed. Cut them in half, lengthwise, and then cut each half into three wedges. It’s important to cut roughly the same size wedges, so they all cook evenly – so for extra big potatoes, cut them into 4 wedges.
2. Grab a zip lock bag
Grab a good quality zip lock bag, and put all your cut sweet potatoes inside. You’ll see why in just a second…
3. It’s time to choose your spices
Now comes the fun part – you get to choose what spices to use! I’ve chosen smoked paprika with chipotle chilli flakes, but there are loads of other spice or herb combinations you can try. It all depends on what flavours you like best.
Here are some suggestions:
- Garlic powder, cayenne powder & paprika
- Cinnamon & paprika
- Cajun seasoning mix
- Garlic powder & dried thyme
- Chilli powder & cumin
Once you have made that all important / incredibly difficult decision on what flavour to choose, grab some olive oil and sea salt.
4. Grab that bag & give it a shake
Add the olive oil (1 tablespoon per sweet potato used), spice mix (or herb mix), and sea salt into the bag and give it a good shake, making sure every potato is covered in the mixture. You can either whack the bag into the fridge until you’re ready to use them, or scatter them on a lined baking tray straight away.
5. Bake your sweet potato crinkle-cut wedges
Preheat the oven to 200°C / 400F / Gas mark 6. Bake in the oven for around 35 – 40 minutes, until the sweet potatoes are tender on the inside and golden on the outside. Take care to turn them twice.
Hurrah, it’s finally time to eat your sweet potato crinkle-cut wedges! Serve them with the sauce of your choice – I’m a big fan of garlic mayonnaise to cool off the chipotle chilli flavour.
