Matcha is a stone-ground powdered green tea which you can both drink or cook with. Authentic Matcha is made from tencha leaves from the plant Camellia Sinensis, and the whole leaf can be consumed. In more recent times, Matcha has been used topically for health and beauty purposes.

Ever since Matcha’s arrival in the UK, its popularity has risen rapidly in the last few years. It can be pricey, but you only need the smallest amounts to reap huge benefits. On Pinterest and natural beauty blogs, the world over you’ll find many recipes for homemade Matcha beauty products.

Some of the beauty benefits of Matcha include:

  • High levels of antioxidants
  • Contains chlorophyll which helps removed toxins
  • Fights free-radicals that damage skin cells & cell renewal
  • The ability to decrease sebum production
  • Protects skin from harmful UV rays

I’ve tried a few beauty recipes over the years, and while some are fantastic most use unnecessary or pricey ingredients that are a bit out of reach if you’re on a budget. I believe the power lies in the Matcha and you only need a few ingredients to make it into a super beauty product. So using Midori Spring Organic Matcha, a Ceremonial GOLD class matcha tea from Japan, I’ve put together 5 different beauty products that are all very quick and easy-to-make, contain easy-to-find kitchen cupboard essentials and won’t cost a fortune to make.

Invigorating Matcha Green Tea & Peppermint Body Scrub

Ready to use in just 5 minutes, this scrub will help boost circulation, draw out toxins and reveal smoother, brighter skin.

You’ll need:

Body Scrub.
Gather your body-boosting ingredients!
  • 1 teaspoon of Matcha
  • 1/2 cup of Coconut Oil
  • Sea Salt or Granulated Sugar
  • Peppermint Oil (optional)

Instructions:

Mix all the ingredients together in a large jar and stir until it has a nice even colour. Add a few drops of Peppermint Oil to give it a fresh scent and you’re good to go. Store it in an air-tight container.

Body Scrub.
It looks pretty, too. Perfect gift for someone!

Calming Matcha Green Tea & Coconut Face Mask 

Just three ingredients make up this potent face mask. Perfect for calming acne and an irritated complexion, it can also slow down sebum production without drying out your skin.

You’ll need:

Face mask
Just a three ingredients needed for this one…
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Matcha
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Coconut Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon of water

Instructions:

Mix all the ingredients together to form a smooth paste. Apply to your face and leave for 20 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.

Face mask
Now slather it on your face and relax!

Matcha Green Tea Bath Salts

Enjoy a relaxing bath with this mix of detoxifying Epsom bath salts and Matcha green tea. Be sure to give your bath a good rinse to avoid any staining.

You’ll need:

A quick blend of Matcha and Epsom salts…
  • 1 teaspoon of Matcha
  • 1/3 cup of Epsom Salts
  • 4 drops of Peppermint oil or your favourite essential oil

Instructions:

Combine all the ingredients together before pouring it under the hot water tap. Swirl around your bathtub and enjoy a relaxing bath.

Bath Salts
Enjoy a long, hot Matcha soak.

Skin Brightening Matcha Green Tea & Avocado Cleanser

Apply this moisturising cleanser to your face day and night to reveal brighter skin, you’ll also add extra protection against harmful UV rays during the day.

You’ll need:

Cleanser.
Fresh Avocado, Matcha, and Olive Oil = Matcha made in heaven!
  • 1/2 Avocado
  • 2 teaspoon of Olive Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Matcha

Instructions:

Mash the avocado using a fork and in a small bowl add the olive oil and Matcha. Stir until well combined. Rub into your face as you would a normal cleaner before rinsing off well.

Cleanser.
Store it in the fride and use it within 2 days.

Cooling Matcha Green Tea & Cucumber Toner

With its anti-inflammatory properties, matcha combined with cucumber makes for a cooling treat for tired or irritated skin.

You’ll need:

Cooling cleanser.
Nothing beats cooling cucumber…
  • Pinch of Matcha
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • Peppermint Oil (optional)

Instructions:

Peel and grate half a cucumber into a sieve and extract the juice. Pour it into a travel bottle and add a pinch of Matcha before closing the lid and shaking to combine the two. Add a few drops of essential oil if you like before storing in the fridge. Use as you would a normal toner and like other perishable homemade products, be sure to use it within a few days.
