Having put the machine to the test in our office, we've decided to award the cleaner with a score of 8 out of 10.

Our plan is to put the carpet cleaner to the test! Our meeting room carpet is looking a little worse for wear, so we're going to give it a good seeing to with the Vax cleaner.

So what do you get in the box? A surprising amount of kit! Here are the full contents:

  • Vax Dual Power Pro Advance Carpet Cleaner machine
  • Hose
  • Accessory bag
  • SpinScrub tool
  • Pre-treatment wand
  • 2 x 250ml Ultra+ solution
  • Pre-treatment solution
  • Wash tool

When you first open the box you may be overwhelmed by all the different parts, but putting the machine together is a breeze because all the pieces just click into place.

We set it up rather quickly and admired what a smart looking machine it was. It was time to test it out for ourselves!

Our meeting room (where all the magic happens) has a lot of tea stains on the floor. They've been there for a while and everyone seems to be conveniently walking over them, having ignored them for a long time. This seemed the perfect place to test the Vax out.

The offending stain.

The Pre-treatment wand

After dry-vacuuming the carpet, Anushka and I decided that these stains have been there for SO long, that one quick wash will not be enough. This job clearly needs the intriguing 'pre-treatment wand' which can help to remove stubborn stains.

We poured the required amount in, tightened the cap and then filled the clean water tank with warm water. Attaching the pre-treatment wand (sounds pretty magical doesn't it?), we then turned it on, then held the trigger spraying all over those pesky stains.

Obeying the bottle instructions, we waited 15 minutes for the solution to do its work.

The Hose & SpinScrub tool

After patiently waiting, the fun really began! We poured the cleaning solution into the tank along with some warm water. Turning the dial to wash, we attached the hose connector and slid the SpinScrub tool over the end of the hose listening out for the click.

We plugged it into the mains and then turned it on. Pressing the trigger to release the solution and water, we then moved the tool over the carpet.

An exciting part of the cleaning process was watching the water tank fill up with dirty water. As well as being completely disgusting, it was pretty incredible how much dirt the Vax was bringing up from the carpet. That certainly wasn't just tea stains!

Sensitive folk, please look away now...

Lovely.
Lovely.

It's actually quite a thrilling thing to see, you know the Vax is working and you know you've done a great job getting it clean. The machine also has an 'auto mix tank' so any of the solution you don't need can be poured straight back into the bottle - waste not, want not.

Anushka and I decided to go over it again with just the machine. For best results, the instruction booklet told us to use 'slow straight parallel strokes' along with intermittent dry forward strokes to increase the water pick up, so that's exactly what we did.

A negative point to bring up that it is a rather large machine and a little bulky. However, it is surprisingly easy to move, so if you're small in stature like we are, don't worry too much about being able to use it.

The carpet wasn't soaking, but it was wet. If you're doing a large area try saving it for a hot day to help with drying.

Here's what you've been waiting for... a photo of a carpet the next day!

Stain-free!
Stain-free!

The tea stains have gone, much to the delight of some of our office inhabitants. Thank you, Vax!

Before we go into the pros and cons, I have to mention the handtool and wash tool - this is so you can clean the stairs, upholstery and car interiors. So useful! The machine also has separate wash and rinse modes so you can rinse your carpets after the initial go for an even deeper clean. The machine also has an extra-large tank which means you can clean for longer.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Big - as the machine is a rather large beast, you can cover a lot of carpet in a short space of time.
  • Multifaceted - lots of useful attachments to treat different areas.
  • See-through tank - you can see (be disgusted by) all the dirt collected!
  • Long power cord - you can clean a large area with ease.
  • 6-year guarantee - feel safe and secure on your purchase.

Cons

  • Large - it's a bulky machine so you'll have to find a suitable storage place
  • Quite loud - not to be used late at night!
  • Chunky - it's doing a big job, so isn't very slim design.

Final Word

You'll be truly surprised by the power of this machine. While it is heavy, it certainly means business. The cleaner will suck up so much dirt you'll be shocked at how you've been living! If you were thinking about getting new carpets then wait, give the Vax a chance at them first and you might just change your mind. It's the perfect chance for you to renew them and it will feel like you've just moved in again.

One thing I will say if love the sound of this cleaner, have a think about where you want to store it before you buy. It's a big piece of equipment and you're not likely to be using it as much as a standard vacuum cleaner.

Overall the Vax Dual Power Pro Advance Carpet Cleaner is a powerful and exciting piece of kit. Give it a go and enjoy the 'ooohs' and 'ahhhs' when you see the dirty water tank!

Brought a Vax carpet cleaner some years ago. Absolutely fine the first few times of use then the 'dirty water' section stopped working. Able to wash the carpet but took days to dry. Read this is a common problem.
