15 Cheap, Last-Minute Costume Ideas For Halloween

15 Cheap, Last-Minute Costume Ideas For Halloween

Left your Halloween costume to the last minute? Don't worry! We've got some brilliant Halloween costume ideas that you can put together, even on a low budget.

If you can't afford an expensive outfit, but don't want to be a plain old witch, this is the guide for you...

1. Pop art

Be bold!

For a creative pop art makeup look, all you need is your everyday beauty essentials. You can easily recreate this look with:

  • Black eyeliner
  • White eyeliner
  • Lipstick
  • Blue eyeshadow
  • Foundation
  • Mascara

Apply your foundation as normal and then add evenly-spaced dots of lipstick all across your face and neck. Apply your lipstick and then use black and white eyeliner to draw on cartoon-like features.

To jazz the costume up, add brightly-coloured clothes and a wig.

2. God's gift

Here's a great lazy costume for men. It's up to you how much effort you put in, but at the very least use some cardboard to make yourself a nice big tag saying "To: Women, From: God."

This is an easy Halloween costume to knock up if you've left it to the last minute.

3. Mad Hatter's Tea Party

It's easier than you'd think!

If you want to make your own Halloween costume, this one may look impressive, but it's actually surprisingly easy! Make a Mad Hatter's Hat out of cardboard or foam board and some fabric. You don't need much else to complete this last-minute Hallowen costume - some crazy hair, a bright scarf tied in a bow around your neck, a jacket, and you'll be unmistakable.

4. Noel Edmonds "Deal or No Deal"

Love Deal Or No Deal? Print out a Noel Edmond's face and attach it to some cardboard. Poke two holes in either side, then use some string to create a mask.

Paint a small to medium-sized cardboard box bright red and print out any number from 1 - 22. Don't forget to add a cash prize to the inside. From 1p to £250,000 that's up to you! Wear a Noel Edmonds style shirt and your costume is complete.

5. Paper doll

This is so fun!

For this is a super-easy costume idea, all you need is a bit of imagination! To look like you've hopped straight off of Pinterest, cut out a cardboard dress with the sticky tabs on the outside and tie it around yourself with a string. Wear a simple bodycon dress underneath for maximum impact.

6. Medusa

This one is really clever! With a flowy white dress and some plastic snakes in your hair, you can quickly become Medusa, or if you can't find any, shape some green pipe cleaners into snakes instead. Add some purple makeup, and you're all set - spooky!

7. Avocado

Pregnant and love avocado? This is the costume for you! Using a large piece of cardboard, cut out an avocado shape and cut a hole for your belly. Wear a brown top to turn your belly into the Avocado stone. What a great Halloween hack!

8. Bubble bath

bubble bath costume
This one's pretty cute.

This is a brilliant and easy costume for children and adults alike. Make your own DIY Bubble Bath Halloween costume with just a few simple supplies. Get some balloons (preferably a mix of white and blue) to create the bubbles. Transparent ball pit balls work well to, but can be expensive.

Take a blue top and secure the balloons in place. The best way to do this is to use small safety pins and attach below the knot of the balloon. For the final flourish, add a shower cap and a rubber duck.

9. Social media

Is there anything scarier than social media? Why not go as a social media profile? For example, Facebook! Print out, or draw your (or someone else's) Facebook page and stick your face through the profile picture hole.

If you don't want to go to all that trouble, just write 'BOOK' on your face like Jim from the American Office. This is perfect for lazy people!

10. Scaly skin

This is a great base idea for a snake, mermaid, fish or anything you can think of that has scaly skin! Using a pair of fishnet tights and some face paint or eyeshadow, you can create an amazing effect on your skin. Use metallics for the best effects!

11. Fifty Shades of Grey

Sexy Halloween costumes don't get much better than this! The prize for the least effort and maximum comedy value will go to this costume. Head to your local paint shop or DIY store to pick up grey paint colour swatches and pin them to yourself. See if anyone gets it.

12. Twister

Paint some coloured circles onto an old t-shirt, just how they are displayed on a Twister mat. Cut out a square of cardboard and draw a Twister board on the front to carry with you. Easy!

Be warned, you could become a target for hands and feet all night!

13. A Sim character

How awesome is this idea? If you're into the Sims then this is the perfect last-minute costume for you.

Print out a copy of the Sim's diamond shape and stick it to a piece of cardboard for reinforcement. Attach it to the top of your head using an old headband.

If you fancy making a bit more effort, print out different colours and stick to a board to create the pixel effect when the characters have no clothes on!

14. Jellyfish

Simple, yet effective!

Looking for a great kid's costume? For something really creative but surprisingly quick and easy to do, opt for a jellyfish costume. All you need is an umbrella (transparent looks the best) and ribbons. There are a few different ways to adapt this costume, like adding battery operated lights.

This costume is great if you're heading out in the rain, but not so good if you're going to a Halloween party and are superstitious about umbrellas being open indoors!

15. Your Tinder profile

Hoping to get lucky this Halloween? A mega-easy costume that anyone can do is bringing your Tinder profile to life! Grab some cardboard and cut out a heart and a cross, then stick it on yourself! If you want to, cut yourself out a white frame border for your face too.

Good luck finding the one!
